Due to multiple shipping issues coupled with rising postage prices, in March 2021 we made the difficult decision to stop shipping this item. However, it is such a unique design, based on years of input from catechists, that we hope these plans help you build your own Altar Cabinet.

These are the training photos and notes for the Altar Cabinet (Sacristy) for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd designed originally by Mike Kwitowski of Atrium Woodworks. Please read the directions all the way through before starting.

Description: An improved version of the CGS Altar cabinet design with drawer included.

  • Baltic birch plywood - 18"W x 7 1/4" D x 25" H
  • More interior room
  • 5 removable shelves 5"W x 7"D
  • Magnetic latch on doors
  • 2 feet for added stability
  • 2 wooden crosses for optional placement on doors

5 removable shelves provide a total of up to 8 adjustable compartments. Cabinet can accommodate a variety of material sizes. Each shelf has hidden slots that lock the shelf in place and prevent them from falling out.

This configuration has been requested by catechists who wanted a fixed bottom shelf, but adjustable shelves above. The 2 doors have hardwood knobs, brass hinges, and a magnetic latch. Two feet provide added stability.

The cabinet is unfinished. 2 Door Crosses can be glued or nailed onto the doors at time of finishing by the Catechist. Feet require simple assembly (4 screws).
